Growthpoint sweeps SAPOA Awards - Longkloof & Thrive
Growthpoint Properties (JSE: GRT) shone at the SAPOA Property Development Awards for Innovative Excellence, taking three wins, including the Overall Best Development and reaffirming its leadership in shaping South Africa’s built environment.
The standout was Canopy by Hilton Cape Town Longkloof, part of Growthpoint’s distinctive Longkloof mixed-use precinct on the edge of the CBD. Working with dhk Architects, Growthpoint restored five heritage buildings, completed selective demolitions and added a 154-key Canopy by Hilton hotel across a 16,500m² footprint.
Surface parking made way for three basement levels, unlocking street-level life: connected pedestrian routes, Longkloof Square, and a blend of office, retail and hospitality that stitches the precinct into the city’s fabric. Judges recognised the project’s complexity, design quality and catalytic impact, awarding it Overall Best Development and Best Mixed-Use Project.
In Johannesburg, Thrive @ Crescent Studios set a new benchmark for student living and earned Best Student Accommodation Project. The 12-storey, 871-bed residence offers studio, two- and three-bed options, each with private kitchens and bathrooms plus study zones on every floor, collaboration rooms, a computer lab, gym, games room, rooftop entertainment, braai areas, laundry and a multi-sport court. The design balances independence with community, creating an environment where students can live, learn and thrive a minute from Wits.
Acknowledging the recognition, Estienne de Klerk, SA CEO of Growthpoint, noted that these awards reflect the company’s commitment to delivering commercially strong projects that also add enduring social and urban value. It’s a clear signal of how heritage-led renewal and amenity-rich residential can anchor vibrant, future-fit districts.
From Longkloof’s city-building to Thrive’s student-centric ecosystem, Growthpoint’s SAPOA success underscores a forward path: sustainable, connected, people-first development that raises the bar for South African real estate.
