Happy Friday REI Community!
What a week it’s been in South Africa - politics, markets, property... and yes, a bit of global drama thrown in for good measure.
Global Headlines & Local Ripples
President Cyril Ramaphosa’s diplomatic dash to Washington to charm President Trump had its fair share of headlines, awkward hugs, and a spotlight on SA’s crime stats (eina!).
While no deals were signed, it was a step in the right direction to rebuild investor confidence but we’re watching the fine print.
Mr. Market’s Mood Swings
Next Thursday’s MPC meeting is the talk of the market and if inflation continues to behave, we may finally see a rate cut (fingers crossed). The reversal of the VAT hike brought a sigh of relief, but the fuel levy increases still mean tighter wallets for many. It's a mixed bag but there are green shoots for those watching closely.
Property Pulse - Green Shoots in Sight
We’re seeing positive momentum in the property sector:
Cape Town and particularly the Southern Peninsula is booming with luxury activity
Pretoria East, parts of Johannesburg, PE, and East London are bubbling with investor buzz
And the smart money is shifting toward apartments and short-term rentals
