What a Week at REI!
Happy Friday, Property Peeps!
Another incredible week at REI! We had the privilege of attending the BizNews conference, where politicians and business leaders came together to brainstorm innovative solutions for kick-starting our economy. The event also featured an insightful analysis of the 2025/6 budget by government, economists and experts, which sparked mixed reactions regarding its impact on South Africa’s property market and broader economy. Let’s take a look at the highlights from this week:
The Budget Breakdown
South Africa’s 2025/6 budget proposes a 0.5% VAT increase to raise R28 billion, which could dampen property transactions and stretch household budgets. However, over R1 trillion in infrastructure investment is set to fuel long-term economic growth and boost property demand. The outlook remains cautiously optimistic despite short-term challenges.
Property Market Trends
In February, South Africa’s REIT sector saw a 1.2% rebound, though it’s still down 2.5% year-to-date. Experts expect a 3%-5% growth in distributable income for 2025, supported by stronger fundamentals and potential interest rate cuts. Geopolitical tensions and inflation risks are the key factors to watch. On the consumer side, confidence in real estate hit a 10-year high of 87%, with first-time buyers driving the market, representing 53% of property registrations. There’s a strong sentiment to buy, invest, and renovate, with more growth expected in 2025.

Big Business Idea of the Week: Charge What You’re Worth
Underpricing yourself isn’t just about losing money – it’s about losing respect. Cheap prices attract clients who undervalue your expertise and drain your energy. To build an empire and achieve true freedom, you need to charge what you’re worth. By valuing yourself, you inspire others to do the same.
Here’s to a weekend of property action, resilience, and bold ideas. Let’s make it happen!
