What a Week at REI!
As we step into September, we're thrilled to celebrate the 17th Anniversary of Real Estate Investor Magazine! Our milestone edition will be published live next Thursday, September 4th, marking nearly two decades of providing invaluable insights into the property sector.
Next week, REI will also be heading to the prestigious South African Property Owners (SAPOA) Convention and Awards Ceremony. This key event is South Africa’s premier property gathering, where investors, industry leaders, and stakeholders converge to discuss trends and opportunities.
In industry news, a recent report by News24 highlights a significant issue: South Africa’s government, the nation’s largest real estate owner, lacks an accurate record of its property portfolio and its utilization. Despite official records showing ownership of approximately 88,000 buildings and five million hectares of land—valued at around R155 billion—Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean Macpherson expressed doubts about the accuracy of these figures. Accurate records could unlock substantial economic potential for South Africa.
The market is eagerly awaiting the next Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting from SARB on 19 September, where a much-anticipated interest rate drop will be discussed. Market speculation is rife, but REI forecasts a minimum reduction of 0.25%. This potential rate cut could present a prime opportunity for investors to enter the South African property market as it begins to correct itself.
As we conclude August, we are proud to have celebrated Women’s Month with a thought-provoking webinar on Empowering Women Leaders. The event showcased the remarkable contributions of women in the property sector. If you missed it, the replay is available on our website at rei.co.za.
Earlier this week, we also hosted an insightful Investment Webinar focusing on Cyprus residency and property investment for South African investors. It’s an excellent international option worth considering for diversifying investment portfolios.
Here's to celebrating 17 years of Real Estate Investor Magazine and the exciting times ahead!
